The design of urinary night bags has not changed in nearly 60 years. Transparent PVC bags hung on a basic metal or plastic frame cause many difficulties. Key amongst these is the distress and stigmatization caused by the visual dominance of up to 2 litres of urine prominently on display.
Layr is a revolutionary approach that brings clear clinical, practical and psychological benefits from a user centred perspective to the problems of overnight catheterization. It replaces the mid-20 th century PVC bag with an intelligent, connected ‘flask’ capable of bringing clinical expertise to the home, providing additional remote diagnostic benefits whilst eliminating the stigma and practical difficulties associated with existing systems.
Layr, reimagines the treatment of night-time catheterisation from simply containing the passed fluid for disposal to applying standard optical sensing and communication technology to provide better analytical tools to clinicians.
