Construction Lines
Construction Lines is a collection of heirloom-quality quilts that use a combination of old-fashioned quilting techniques and Islamic geometry-inspired design. Every design decision is made to create something that feels good and celebrates geometry. Each piece is handmade of high-quality natural materials to withstand years of love and use.
The Maker and Their Production Space
Everything is designed and made by Erin Owes in her home studio in North Oakland.
The Making Process
Construction Lines’ quilts are made exactly like your grandma’s and nothing like your grandma’s. Using heirloom-quality cottons and linens, I block print patterns inspired by Islamic and sacred geometry on double-gauze before hand-stitching through the layers of fabric and organic cotton/bamboo batting to create each quilt. Each piece is a labor of love.
The Production Model
Creating each piece with one set of hands, Construction Lines is able to make work that is of exceptional quality and with very little waste. Commissions are a collaboration where size, colors and materials are chosen together resulting in a piece meant to have a long life of use.
The Materials
Each material is chosen to feel good on the body and stand up to use. Double-gauze cotton creates a squishy, soft quilt top. Linen-cotton blends age beautifully, getting softer with each wash. The batting is a bamboo-organic cotton blend that drapes well and regulates body temperature. The quilting stitches are tiny, creating a more durable textile that does not snag as easily and holds up to machine washing. All together, the quilts are created to be used and loved for generations.
