The Long Confidence

The Long Confidence is a furniture and home goods company based in Berkeley, California, designing contemporary heirlooms and quality goods. Our products live gracefully in the home, becoming more beautiful over time. We are invested in working with the absolute best materials and values, letting them shine through our products. We draw from a variety of cultural and conceptual practices, making furniture and objects with elemental forms, and unique, surprising moments and details.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

Materials & Ingredients
We use domestic FSC certified wood as well as urban salvaged trees throughout our furniture product line. Wood is a highly resilient material, a renewable resource with low embedded energy. Our finishes all have low to no volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). We work with suppliers that also embrace resilient practices.

Packaging & Delivery
We use solely recycled materials for our packaging, and no plastics.

Quality & Value
The furniture and home goods we craft are made from materials that will last generations. Hardwood, brass and bronze, glass. These materials do not meaningfully degrade under normal conditions. We embrace patina as a mark of aging and beauty, and we work to craft our objects to become more beautiful over time, not less. Our furniture is made from a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques to ensure that our furniture will last for generations. We use techniques that have been validated over 1000’s of years, as well as the newest technology, to ensure that our objects will grow with their owners over time.

Waste Reduction
The nature of woodworking is largely subtractive – you take larger pieces of wood, and make them smaller, into the shape and size you desire. Through careful planning of our cuts, and intentional material purchasing, we strive to have minimal waste through this phase.

Local Supply Chains
Our furniture is made in Berkeley, and all of our vendors for both materials and for small fabrication are based within 100 miles of the city.

Energy Efficiency
By nature of our business and craft, we have a fairly small energetic footprint.

Goals & Aspirations
As we grow as a business, we hope to find use for all of our waste products, incorporating them back into the product cycle.

Affiliations
For each piece of furniture we sell, in partnership with the non-profit National Forest Foundation, we plant 10 trees in a National Forest.
