Creative Cross-Pollination
June 21, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

What happens when “rattan’s first great virtuoso” meets a highly skilled “rattan remixer”? Join Kenneth Cobonpue, Annie Kantor and Lisa Boquiren for an engaging, and wide-ranging conversation on innovation, craft and brand building.
The Philippines-based Kenneth Cobonpue is an industrial designer whose work ranges in scale from chairs and coffee tables to transportation and buildings. His design journey took him from New York City (he is a Pratt Institute alum) to Europe, and back to the Philippines. Through his namesake company, Kenneth pioneered the integration of design, manufacturing, distribution and branding. The first recipient of the Asian Designer of the Year from Maison et Objet, Kenneth has also received Hong Kong’s Design for Asia Award, the Japan Good Design Award, the American Society of Interior Designers Selection and the French Coup de Coeur Award.
Annie Kantor founded Modern Metal, applying her expertise in repeating-pattern design from textiles to metal; previously, she was Head of Custom Studio at the storied textile company Maharam. For Modern Metal, Annie creates custom, precision-laser cut metal grilles and panels for fine homes, luxury hotels and commercial spaces-made to order in the United States, including the recently released “Rattan Remix,” which is Annie’s interpretation of the traditional weave structure in metal. Modern Metal (and Annie) have been featured in Architect, Architectural Record, Elle Decor, Interior Design, Elle Decor and World of Interiors, among many other publications.
An architecture and design aficionada, Lisa Boquiren provides insight, ideas and strategy for creative business. She is also a program contributor at AIASF (American Institute of Architects San Francisco Chapter) where she produces the “Practice series” (2012-present) covering topics such as, women in design, equity in education and the changing dynamic between employee and employer. Most recently, she interviewed Gensler San Francisco Principal and Studio Director Bert deViterbo, AIA for the Center for Architecture + Design’s online series, “Fresh Brew”.
