Digital Placemaking

Placemaking is a collaborative process of designing spaces to enhance their use for the inhabitants. It involves multiple stakeholders from designers and engineers to community members and technologists in order to be successful. Digital placemaking is the use of technology that is traditionally from stage production in order to create compelling experiences in shared spaces.
Robb Pope and Nick Moser will speak about the state of the art of digital placemaking, the process, and case studies showing successful projects. Nick is a creative technologist with deep roots in advanced fabrication who creates strategies for clients to effectively implement large scale placemaking projects and Robb has a background in innovative digital installations, creating complex volumetric installations and interactive digital experiences using cutting edge technology.
This presentation will explore the current status of the Digital Placemaking field and review prominent examples. It will provide inspiration and direct the audience to resources for help with their own projects.
- Explore the purpose and strategies for placemaking using digital technologies. Explore common challenges associated with creating unique, compelling and interactive digital experiences.
- Discuss the classes of technologies and fabrication methods commonly used to create these installations. Review how different technologies and fabrication techniques can be combined

This presentation will be a back and forth dialogue between the presenters and the audience is encouraged to ask questions. The end of the presentation will have a robust question and answer session, allowing the audience to offer their point of view.
