With the rise of social entrepreneurship and impact design initiatives, designers are increasingly applying their skills to improve their communities and build a better world.
From creating inclusive products to designing educational activations to crafting campaigns or strategies for social good, informed design can be an essential ingredient for effecting change. But what can design thinking offer that historical approaches to change-making have been missing? What can designers learn from the sciences of cultural and conceptual change? And what makes designing for purpose different from designing for profit alone?
This event will bring together four leaders from across the for-profit and non-profit sectors to discuss the value of strategic design when tackling challenging issues, real world examples of successful social impact projects, and the opportunity the design community has to lead change. We’ll focus on universal guidelines and practical takeaways to help you maximize the positive impact of your own work.
Following lightning talks from each speaker, we will host a moderated discussion focused on the challenges, best practices, and evaluation of impact-driven design. We’ll end the evening with a mixer to foster community, encourage connection, and keep the conversation going.
