The Makers and Their Production Spaces
Each item is created on demand at our Oakland microfactory. We operate our microfactory out of a 5,000sf facility where everything from wood to 3D printing to finishing to packaging and shipping happens. Our dedicated staff works on design, production and material choices. All items are Quality Control and checked multiple times before going out. We accommodate all kinds of customer requests, from last minute changes to custom details and in a couple cases a complete redesign of our product – which we then added to our offerings! All because we can make those changes quickly in house and it the same production time for the customized product.

The Making Process
Model No. uses all bio-based and recyclable materials in all its products. Our products are crafted with only earth friendly materials. Biodegradable polymers and FSC certified woods are in everything we do! Our polymers produce ~80% less greenhouse gases and use ~ 52% less non-renewable energy than traditional materials. Our wood only comes from responsibly managed forests. Leveraging the innovations in 3D printing and other digital manufacturing processes, we are able to hold no inventory and make every product that is ordered on demand. This allows us to offer our customers a larger amount of options, product selection, material choices and customization. With all these options our warehouse still retains a very small footprint.

The Production Model
The idea of the micro factory is to open a new small (micro even!) facility near every area that is ordering a large amount of our products. Because we hold no inventory, the individual micro factories will have the benefit to the local customer of quick shipping, local materials, local pick up and local jobs! Our small batch production could be anywhere. We hope to bring into the micro-factories local hardwoods and other materials that are native to the location. In that way we would be able to supply the local area customers with products made in materials from that area.
