Plural by Nature: Curiosity as a Creative Practice

June 3 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free – $10.00

This 40-minute presentation will reframe creativity through cultural movement and lived multiplicity, inspired by Sonya Yu’s upbringing between Beijing and the Bay Area. The duality of cultures taught her to move between languages, expectations, and ways of seeing — not as a strategy, but as survival. Over time, that in-between space became her creative practice: a way of approaching the world through curiosity rather than expertise.

This presentation is less about mastery and more about staying porous, about harnessing everyone’s innate contradictions as a form of design thinking rooted in observation, translation, and presence. Through personal storytelling and reflections on cross-cultural identity, interdisciplinary practice, and the quiet power of wonderment, Sonya invites audiences to reconsider what it means to create without needing to be the authority in the room. Plurality becomes not just a theme, but a way of moving — allowing curiosity, conversation, and cultural fluency to guide process.

Audiences will walk away with an invitation to embrace creativity as a living, plural practice — where not knowing becomes generative, curiosity becomes methodology, and moving between worlds becomes a source of creative momentum rather than fragmentation.
