India Basin Waterfront Park

India Basin Waterfront Park brings into focus a community-driven vision for a long-neglected stretch of waterfront in San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point district. With its frontage on Innes Avenue, the newly designed park leaves legible the historic boatyard’s remnants and weaves in new purpose by enhancing shoreline access with bike paths, connector trails, native landscapes and new gathering spaces. The restored Shipwright’s Cottage houses a new welcome center and classroom. New structures include a Food Pavilion and Shop Building which host rotating vendors, community workshops and youth programs. Wrapped in translucent and perforated-metal panels, they take on an ethereal presence in the landscape––subtly luminescent by day and glowing at night. Guided by an Equitable Development Plan, the transformation preserves the neighborhood’s culture while creating benefits that extend beyond the park and meaningfully uplift the surrounding community.
