Candler Hotel Atlanta, Curio Collection by Hilton
NICOLEHOLLIS
Located in the heart of Downtown Atlanta on a site that was once a First Methodist Church in the 1800’s, The Candler Hotel is a nod to the city’s rich industrial history and craftsmanship. Originally built in 1906 by Coca-Cola founder Asa Griggs Candler, The Candler Building was the city’s tallest building for many decades. Placed on the National Register of Historical Places, it was known as one of Atlanta’s foremost luxurious office buildings, most recently harboring the offices of prominent law and real estate firms.
In 2015 The Candler Building was purchased with plans to convert the 17-story high-rise into a boutique hotel as part of the Hilton Curio Collection. The hotel honors its past by retaining the building’s iconic lobby and original Beaux-Arts architectural details.
The Candler Hotel brings new life and elevated design to the downtown district of Atlanta. The redesign took four years, and the result has left Atlanta with a beautiful travel destination that evokes the city’s rich history. Despite the challenging parameters of converting a historic building into a boutique hotel, NICOLEHOLLIS created a unique destination that leaves guests admiring every room and detail.
NICOLEHOLLIS drew inspiration from Atlanta’s local flora and fauna while incorporating elements of marble, brass, and custom oak parquet wood floors to build upon the idea of hospitality in the South. The building’s historic marble friezes inspired the design of several rooms, channeling themes of Agriculture, Literature, Astronomy, Drama, and Music.
Upon entry, guests are stunned by the building’s original marble columns, grand staircase, and friezes that are paired with ornate Ti1ffany & Co. glass windows and chandeliers. The public spaces, which include the meeting rooms, ballroom, library and restrooms, each off1er a completely unique experience. The bold patterns of the wallpaper, flooring, and drapery make every space dramatic, distinctive, and memorable.
Combining modern interpretations with classic pieces, NICOLEHOLLIS applied its residential design background to create comfortable spaces where guests can feel at home. The 265 guestrooms and suites offer unexpected charm and feature custom furnishing, rich velet textiles, paneled trim, custom floral drapery by Swavelle, and a rich array of art and photography. Custom Lighting by HB Lighting illuminates the featured details and paneled trim around the guestrooms.
The Candler Hotel genuinely connects with the city of Atlanta and is beautiful ode to the area’s historic past, while at the same time it embraces the city’s exciting future. Guests will remember their time spent at The Candler Hotel as it truly off1ers a one-of-a-kind experience.
