The vibrant mosaic mural consists of over 425,000 tiles crafted by artist Francisco “Amend” Sanchez and assisted by Civic Design Studio, it serves as a permanent tribute to the Indigenous Ohlone people, reflecting their rich past and present. 

The imagery highlights the ongoing legacy and cultural resurgence of the Ohlone people, ensuring that their story and plight continues to be shared and honored. It celebrates the enduring presence of the Ohlone and their vital relationship to the land and water.

Amend is a self-taught aerosol artist based in Oakland, CA celebrated for his unique ability to blend traditional Mexican Muralism with contemporary aerosol techniques. His art aims to foster a sense of belonging and recognition for those often overlooked.

Civic Design Studio is based in East Oakland. Through art and design, we connect master artists, neighborhood leaders, educators and culture bearers to build lasting bridges across sectors of cities towards community cultural advancement.
