Honorable Mention: Mayor of Bayville: Co-Creating the Bay Area’s Future

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Association of Bay Area Governments (MTC/ABAG) are two agencies that handle long-range planning, financing, and transportation in the SF Bay Area. Exygy, who partners with social impact organizations to design and build technology that improves lives, partnered with MTC/ABAG to create Mayor of Bayville: an interactive, educational game that brings players along in strategic decision-making.

Mayor of Bayville represents a fresh approach to an age-old problem in government: how do you meet citizens where they are and get them involved in policy making? The challenge is to adapt to how technology shapes our lives, making civic engagement inspiring and easy. Users play the role of “Mayor,” choosing transportation, housing, environment, and economic strategies. Players are presented with a report on how their policy decisions compare to others. Reports give insight into the data that MTC/ABAG will utilize when determining Play Bay Area 2050.
