Sonoma Glass House

CMA Development

Honorable Mention

Set within a rolling oak-studded landscape, the Sonoma Glass House was conceived less as an object placed on the land and more as a framework for experiencing it. A winding drive through mature oaks compresses views before gradually revealing the home and valley beyond. Upon entry, the panorama opens fully – a moment of release – while the house unfolds through intimate spatial experiences tied to the site.

Each room engages the landscape differently: a coffee deck in morning light, treehouse-like bedrooms pressed against oaks, a primary suite overlooking clouds drifting through the valley. Designed to be lived in and shared, every space invites a deeper awareness of place.

Conceived and completed by CMA Development – including interior design and construction – with architect Linda Taalman and her pioneering IT House system. Rather than imposing upon the site, the house frames and heightens awareness of it – an instrument for living inside nature, not beside it.
