Topology Eyewear
Topology makes custom-tailored eyeglasses and sunglasses that fit better than any pair you’ve ever owned. Starting with a 3D face scan in our app, we work with you to design your perfect frames. We precisely craft every pair from scratch in San Francisco to ensure you walk away with the clearest vision possible.
The Makers and Their Production Spaces
Our opticians work with customers one-on-one to design each individual pair of frames. Those designs are sent to our industrial designers, who prepare them for manufacturing. Our staff then manufactures the frames in our facility in SF.
The Making Process
Our cellulose acetate frames are CNC-milled. Our stainless steel sheet metal frames are laser-cut and electroplated for color or gold plating. These materials are the same as those used by the premier fashion houses throughout they eyewear and fashion industry. We are uniquely bringing custom manufacturing to traditional premium materials (i.e. no 3D printing).
The Production Model
The model is bespoke, one-off production at scale. That’s the product promise. The reason we do it is that most glasses don’t fit most people. Everyone’s face is unique, and eyewear is a rigid object, so a perfect fit requires a unique frame. Combine that with the demands of a medical device for precision of opthalmic lenses, and custom eyewear is just better eyewear. We don’t currently offer 3D printing because the materiality created with 3D printing technology is not on par with that offered in traditional fashion eyewear.
The Materials
Cellulose, cotton-based acetate is an organically derived plastic. The surgical-grade stainless steel is US-sourced.
