MGG Studio

MGG Studio creates distinctive, sculptural jewelry to embolden women to express their true selves. Inspired by the strong shapes, fluid forms, and clean lines of modernist art and architecture, we help women cultivate an armory of accessories that communicate their striking individuality while being deliciously comfortable to wear.

Our sleek, modern jewelry is designed to be aesthetically compelling, and is engineered to feel as good as it looks. We take the extra time to polish interiors of our rings until they're smooth as silk, offer a range of lightweight earrings, and tailor our cuffs to fit the curve of the wrist. These steps take a bit of extra time and attention, but we know our customer wants jewelry that both makes a statement and fits seamlessly into her everyday life. We believe that good design and sustainability go hand in hand. Each of our jewelry pieces is handcrafted using recycled metals and ethically sourced stones.  We take great care to reduce waste in the studio and choose the most minimal impact practices we can when fabricating, packaging, and shipping our jewelry. We also support local businesses by partnering with a Bay Area- based caster and local stone setters.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

Materials & Ingredients
The majority of our jewelry is made from recycled sterling silver, recycled bronze, and recycled 14k gold. Most of our pieces are hand carved from wax and cast; we work with a Santa Rosa-based caster who sources her casting grain from United Precious Metals, an EICC – GeSI certified  "conflict-free" smelter.

We source our silver and 14k gold wire and sheet from either Hoover and Strong or Rio Grande. All of the silver and 14k gold we purchase from Hoover and Strong is 100% recycled. The majority of the silver and 14k gold we purchase from Rio Grande is also recycled.

There are some materials that we use in our jewelry (e.g., brass sheet metal, 14k gold fill chain, wire and findings) that are not recycled. We are continuing to look for reasonably priced recycled versions of these materials that we can incorporate into our designs.

Packaging & Delivery
To store our jewelry (and to ship to our wholesale accounts) we hang pieces on cards made from recycled paper and enclose them in biodegradable zip top bags from Rio Grande. The bag and zippers are made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) that will biodegrade under anaerobic landfill conditions.

When shipping our jewelry to our retail customers, we enclose the pieces in recycled gift boxes from Rio Grande. The boxes are made from 90% post-consumer fiber, covered with paper made from 100% post-consumer fiber. Our shipping boxes, labels, void fill, notecards and postcards are all made from 100% recycled material.

Quality & Value
Our jewelry is crafted to be both beautiful and durable. We test each design to make sure it can stand up to regular wear, and we also provide a care card with each purchase to ensure that our customers know how to maintain their jewelry so that it will last a lifetime. Because we know accidents do happen and pieces will get damaged from time to time, we also offer repair services for our jewelry designs.

Waste Reduction
Although we’re always looking to minimize waste, the process of making jewelry inevitably generates some amount of scrap metal. We regularly refine all of our precious metal scrap and dust (or “sweeps”) so that it too can be recycled into future jewelry.

Local Supply Chains
We choose to work with many local vendors in the process of making our jewelry. Our caster is located in Santa Rosa and our stone setters are both based in San Francisco.

Goals & Aspirations
I would like to find more sustainable replacements for the few materials we use that are not recycled. I would also like to become a California Certified Green Business.
