First Steps

Our host registration process follows several key steps:

  1. We review your registration and contact you with any questions we may have
  2. We supply both an individual event page on our site and your custom Eventbrite event for your review.
  3. Once both the page and Event are approved by you, we schedule your event to go live. We release all new events on a weekly cycle (Monday 10a each week) to both amplify promotions and give visitors equal opportunity to reserve tickets. We will provide release dates and times to each host.
  4. Once your event is live, we suggest reviewing tips and requirements for your event, detailed below.

Requirements for Hosts

Every event is unique. To help visitors navigate and identify official SFDW events, we’ve laid out a couple core requirements:

  • Marketing & Wayfinding: our team has created templates that may be used for wayfinding signage, presentations or printed collateral to help brand your event as part of SFDW. Resources are available for download under Promoting your Event.
  • Promotion: With so many activities available, we ask that hosts promote their event and SFDW broadly on any active social channels. Account info and tags are listed below.
  • Resources: Each event is organized, funded and staffed by hosts. We suggest  hosts have employees available for monitoring attendance (via ticketing), general documentation (photography) and fielding any questions pertinent to your event.  We also require hosts to provide follow-up info on attendance and general feedback through a simple form available after SFDW.
  • Welcome to the Family: We ask hosts to welcome guests from both around the Bay and across the world as we foster new conversations and celebrate the work and impact of great design.

Promoting Your Event

More than just selling tickets, SFDW leverages an extensive partnership network to increase visibility and engage audiences year-round. Amplify your involvement through branding your event and social posts:

FAQs

Who comes to SFDW Events?
We welcome a growing local and international audience every year- take a look at some of this year’s demographics.

How can I be sure that I will have attendees?
Each year SFDW events tend to sell out quickly, due in part to the support and promotion of our event hosts. Once your event is live, share to your network and within your organization. You can monitor your ticket sales/registrations through your Eventbrite page.

Where does my registration fee go?
SFDW is organized and run by AIGA San Francisco, the non-profit professional association for design. Any registration fees go towards coordination and resources to run SFDW, as a donation to AIGA SF.

Background

Founded in 2006, San Francisco Design Week (SFDW) is the largest design festival in the Bay Area from Silicon Valley to Berkeley and beyond. It’s a way to reach out to a diverse community of over 24,000 design professionals, entrepreneurs, design-savvy public and tourists.

SFDW’s goal is to raise public awareness of the impact that design has on innovation, introduce new names to the design community, and explore the emerging disciplines driving design in San Francisco and around the world. We are creating a public forum where citizens and designers can engage in a discussion about design and its role in the modern world.

SFDW is organized by AIGA San Francisco, the professional association for design in partnership with YBCA, SFFAMA, SEGD, SDN, IXDA, Italian Cultural Institue, IDSA, Contemporary Jewish Museum, California Academy of Sciences, Center for Architecture and Design, AIA and AIGASF. Every year it attracts thousands of visitors. Our main events are targeted at professionals and the general public and are produced by the SFDW planning committee. The festival program contains around 50 events yearly and has such highlights as workshops, runway show, and studio tours. Last year’s program can be found here – http://2014.sfdesignweek.org/past-events/

The events during design week take place in a variety of spaces around the city and beyond—from galleries to design studios and startup HQs to boutique shops.
