2024 Makers Series | Fresh Brew: In Conversation with Mark Rogero

June 6 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The first of the 2024 Makers Series kicks off during San Francisco Design Week featuring Lise de Vito, Owner, Zack | de Vito Architecture + Construction in conversation with Mark Rogero, Founder, Concreteworks. The series is part of the Center for Architecture + Design’s “Fresh Brew” conversations and showcase makers whose work is directly or intersectionally related to architecture and the built environment.

The 2024 Makers Series continues the exploration into the essence of making within the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area. Join us as we look into the core of creativity, with the aim to unravel the motivations that drive individuals to craft and innovate. We will explore the intricate interplay between inspiration, innovation and creativity. We will address how technology seamlessly intertwines with creativity, empowering makers with insights and capabilities to serve as a catalyst for their making. By shining a spotlight on this diverse range of makers, we will unearth their stories and learn of the influences that help manifest their ideas: natural resources, color, experimental materials, light, San Francisco history, architecture and urban planning.

Mark Rogero, Founder, Concreteworks. Mark founded Concreteworks in 1991 as a workshop in Emeryville crafting and fabricating commissioned pieces by hand. With a strong design sensibility, adoption of advanced technologies, a diverse and specialized team and dedication as a life-long student of concrete, Concreteworks is well know for creating the seemingly impossible–and always beautiful. From products to furniture to collaborative architectural feats, Mark Rogero’s exploration is on the cutting edge continuing to push concrete far beyond a strictly industrial material.

Mark Rogero’s drive for innovation, craftmanship and sustainability continues decades later, imaging that his company has just scratched the surface of this materials’ potential and limitations.
