Korean Waves in Design

June 3 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

BlueStream Gallery, a contemporary art space dedicated to innovative exhibitions and creative dialogue, is thrilled to present “Korean Waves in Design” during SF Design Week 2025. As a gallery founded by Asian American designers, we have consistently supported the Asian modern design community and beyond through diverse exhibitions. This event will spotlight Korean-inspired design and innovation, exploring how traditional aesthetics, materials, and philosophies inspire contemporary product design. By highlighting the influence of K-Waves in design, we aim to foster meaningful conversations about design’s role in cultural storytelling and bridge connections between Korean designers and the Bay Area design community.

Event Description
This immersive showcase will celebrate the vibrancy of contemporary Korean design, featuring brands that seamlessly blend tradition with modern innovation. Attendees will explore the evolution of Korean design across digital experiences, consumer products, and tactile packaging. The space will highlight interactive media forms, and visually striking branding alongside handcrafted textiles, minimalist ceramics, and sustainable materials. Through interactive exhibits and experiential storytelling, this event will offer a deep dive into the creative forces shaping Korea’s dynamic design landscape today.

Key elements of the event include:

  • Panel Discussion (15 min; moderated by Soh Kim, Stanford Food Design Lab): A short panel featuring Korean designers and Bay Area creatives discussing the intersection of tradition and innovation in design.
  • Ongoing Design Showcase Booths: A curated selection of Korean-inspired products and designs in both tangible and digital forms.
  • Cultural Networking: A casual networking session with curated Korean-inspired food and refreshments from Chimmelier x Jilli (Korean Tapas Restaurant), fostering connections between Korean designers and the Bay Area design community.
