Founded by Marcus Guillard (One Hat One Hand), Jamie Shaw (Cogs & Marvel), and Nick Moser (Lumisan), LMNL (pronounced “liminal”) uses narrative and experiential design principles to create human-centric ecosystems that connect physical and virtual worlds.

Our two-year, low-residency MBA in Design Strategy program (DMBA) is a graduate business program with five four-day residencies held each month of a semester. Set against the backdrop of the Bay Area, a region known for its unshakeable belief in a better world, the MBA in Design Strategy trains future leaders to question, listen, and put human needs at the center of decision-making.
Melanie Abrantes Designs is a Bay Area-based producer of handcrafted, heirloom objects. Founder Melanie Abrantes believes that in order to create something beautiful, you have to get your hands dirty. She founded her company in 2013 when she realized there was a growing American market for handmade goods.
Mike & Maaike is an internationally recognized design studio known for a diverse experimental body of work ranging from furniture to technology to transportation. Led by Mike Simonian and Maaike Evers, the studio mixes a European design atelier approach with the progressive perspective of San Francisco. Their distinct backgrounds and thoughtful design approach create strong conceptual narratives in their projects. Mike & Maaike’s work is recognized internationally and exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. They have been named on over 70 patents and are featured on Fast Company’s list of 100 Most Creative People in Business.
MMclay is a woman-owned handmade tableware business located in the popular Hayes Valley neighborhood in San Francisco. Owned and operated by ceramic designer MaryMar Keenan, MMclay has an enormous passion to keep art alive in one of the nation’s most expensive cities, producing over 1500 pieces of pottery a month for restaurants and homes internationally.
The Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) makes creativity accessible to everyone.
The Museum of Craft and Design is the only museum in San Francisco devoted to craft and design. Founded in 2004, MCD showcases designers, makers and artists through an exciting and distinctive series of craft and design-focused exhibitions and public programs. As a non-collecting institution, the museum actively collaborates with artists, designers, museums and universities, as well as design venues and practitioners to create inspirational experiences in the world of craft and design for visitors of all ages.
